Nudge Doorbell Integration — Privacy Disclosure

Last updated: July 18, 2026

Nudge ("Nudge"), developed by Bolton LLC, offers an optional integration with Ring video doorbells. When you link your Ring account, Nudge plays a chime through your Sonos speakers when your Ring doorbell is pressed. This page explains exactly what data that integration uses. It supplements the main Nudge Privacy Policy at nudge-app.me/privacy.

The short version

Nudge receives only the fact that your doorbell was pressed — never your video, audio, images, live view, or recordings. It uses that event to play a chime on the Sonos speakers you choose. You can disconnect at any time, which deletes everything Nudge stored.

Purposes for which your data is processed

Nudge processes Ring data for a single purpose: to play a doorbell chime on your selected Sonos speakers when your Ring doorbell is pressed. Specifically:

  • Doorbell-press events ("button_press") trigger the chime in real time.
  • Your Ring Account ID is used to route the press to your own Sonos system so the chime plays in the right home.
  • Ring account authorization (OAuth) tokens are held only to establish and maintain the account link Ring requires.

Nudge does not use Ring data for advertising, marketing, analytics, profiling, or any purpose beyond playing your doorbell chime.

Use of your data for AI model training

Nudge does not use any Ring or customer data to train AI or machine-learning models. The doorbell integration performs no AI processing of any kind.

Data retention periods

  • Doorbell-press events are processed in real time and are not retained, except a short-lived record (about five minutes) used only to avoid playing the same chime twice for a duplicated notification.
  • Authorization tokens are retained only while your Ring account is linked. Access tokens are short-lived (about 4 hours) and refresh tokens are replaced on their normal cycle (about 30 days).
  • The link between your Ring account and your Sonos system is retained until you disconnect. Disconnecting deletes it, along with all stored tokens.

Data sharing with third parties, including sub-processors

Nudge does not sell or share your Ring data with advertisers or data brokers. Two service providers are involved in delivering the feature:

  • Sonos — the chime is played through the Sonos Audio Clip service. Sonos receives only an instruction to play a chime on your own Sonos speakers. Sonos does not receive any Ring data (no account identifier, no event details).
  • Cloudflare — provides the secure cloud infrastructure that receives the doorbell event and stores your encrypted authorization tokens. Cloudflare acts as an infrastructure processor only.

How to exercise your privacy rights (access and deletion)

You can disconnect the Ring integration at any time from the Ring app or from Nudge. Disconnecting immediately stops all doorbell events and deletes the stored link and tokens. For any access or deletion request, contact support@bolton.llc and we will respond promptly.

Available opt-out mechanisms

The integration is off until you turn it on, and entirely optional. To opt out at any time, disconnect Ring from the Ring app or from Nudge. There is no data collection while the integration is disconnected.

Human review of your data

No one — at Bolton LLC or elsewhere — can view your Ring video, audio, images, or recordings through Nudge, because Nudge never receives them. Nudge receives only the fact that a press occurred. There is no customer video or media for any person to review.

How you control and review your data (video footage, images)

Not applicable to this integration: Nudge accesses no video footage, images, or recordings. The only data associated with the integration is the link between your Ring account and your Sonos system, which you remove by disconnecting.

Changes to AI capabilities

Not applicable: the doorbell integration uses no AI, detection, or recognition capabilities. If that ever changes, this page and the main Privacy Policy will be updated before any such capability is introduced, and your consent obtained where required.

Children's privacy

The Nudge doorbell integration is not directed to children under 13 and does not knowingly process their data.
